Turning Points: a dialogue about change
The editorial project of the 2024 Pirelli Annual Report is a journey through a world in transformation.
Turning Points takes five phenomena – tattoos, trees, meditation, watches and social media posts – and explores how they reflect our current sensibilities and define the way we live.
By sharing their thoughts on these selected themes, four writers and a poet capture some of the driving forces behind the ongoing changes we are experiencing. They offer perspectives on how our relationship with our bodies, nature, spirituality, time and self-perception is evolving.
The project features contributions by writer Walter Siti (tattoos), winner of the 2013 Strega Prize for Italian prose fiction; biologist and writer David George Haskell (trees), Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of the South in Tennessee; poet and playwright Mariangela Gualtieri (meditation); award-winning writer, photographer and art historian Teju Cole (watches); and writer Tommaso Pincio (social media posts), winner of the 2025 European Strega Prize for his translation of Paul Murray’s The Bee Sting.
The texts are accompanied by five images – one for each theme – created by artist and illustrator Elisa Talentino, whose work combines classical painting techniques with digital tools.
And you can hear more from three of the contributors – Siti, Gualtieri and Pincio – in Turning Points: the talk show, a discussion hosted by journalist Antonello Piroso which explores the five themes and their connection with the contemporary world.
