Responsible Artificial Intelligence Overview

Pirelli has adopted a Group-level approach to Responsible AI, assigning defined roles and responsibilities for AI development, processes, outcomes, risk decisions and regulatory compliance, and integrating AI oversight within the Group’s existing governance and control framework.
The following provides a selection of activities carried out in view of the risks identified, intended as indicative but not exhaustive examples:
• Limiting access to sensitive AI capabilities— access to AI systems and to their more sensitive capabilities is restricted on a role basis (“who can see and do what”), ensuring that only authorised personnel can deploy such technologies under appropriate oversight.
• Distinct labeling of AI-generated content and outcomes — content and outcomes generated by AI systems, such as text, images, or decisions, is labelled as such, and users are informed when they are interacting with an AI system rather than a human, consistently with the transparency obligations of Article 50 of the EU AI Act.
• Mechanisms to detect and correct drift or degradation of AI models— AI models are monitored on a recurring basis; automated mechanisms combined with data-science capabilities support the periodic re-training of models, in line with the monitoring obligations foreseen by the AI Act for high-risk systems.
• Regular assessments of deployed AI models for fairness/bias— deployed AI models are subject to a cyclical assessment process aimed at identifying and mitigating any bias, that may affect their decisions or outcomes, treated both as an ethical and a performance matter, with re-training activities where required.
• Initiatives to lower the ecological footprint of AI data centers/models — Pirelli works with suppliers that are committed to implement measures to reduce AI operations ecological footprint; Pirelli also works to minimise computational load in order to mitigate the relevant energy consumption and environmental impact.
• Appeals process —Pirelli makes available a channel through which users and affected third parties exercise their appeals to seek redress or clarification.
